South Dakota Security License

South Dakota Security License

It is not necessary to have a South Dakota Security security license in this state. However, there are some regional regulations. This may cause some employers to set lower standards. Of course, some agencies have high criteria.

Main requirements

There are several basic standards in most states of the country, which are common. Here are some of them:

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • He/she should have good moral behavior and be intellectually competent with a high sense of responsibility.
  • There should be no dependence on alcohol and drugs.
  • A person should not have a criminal history or any physical disabilities preventing the work process.
  • Future employees must have US residency or authorization to work in the county.

This list is not exhaustive because several companies propose specific requirements. For example, they need people who can walk for several hours in a row, or have a driving license.

Basic skills and knowledge

Most agencies state in a job announcement that they are looking for people with a high sense of responsibility, having the willingness to learn. They must know their rights and obligations, ethics of public relations, write various reports and take notes, crisis management, and other abilities.

And some of these offices are nationwide. So, they often choose candidates with past experience in the military, law enforcement, or other related roles. Drug and alcohol screening is a must.

Transport Security Authority (TSA) is one of the most competitive companies. Here, minimum demands may include computer-based test checking even your language proficiency. They are looking for candidates having certifications. It could be the main certification obtained by the International Association of  Healthcare Security and Safety within a year.

Application process

The regulations are different for armed and unarmed guards. If you want to become an armed security guard, you should be at least 21 years old. Besides, you submit your fingerprints and a high school diploma in addition to the above-mentioned.

Whether you must pass firearms training depends on what city you are hired in. In this case, contact your local region clerk for clear information. You also need a weapon permit, and a certificate proofing your knowledge and skills in carrying firearms. The permission to use a weapon is SDCL 22- 14- 11. It is valid for 4 years.
